About Bunions And How to Cure Them

Bunions are commonly found to have been caused by wearing shoes that fit too tightly, though in other cases they may also be caused by genetic defect or other underlying conditions such as arthritis. Bunions are also more common in older people than in younger people. Bunions are bony prominences on the side of the foot. Bunions affect about 30% of the population in the West. These are found to be 10 times more common in females than in males.

Pain that results from a bunion could be moderate or extreme, and to cure it you should use an effective bunions treatment, that will relieve your pain and re-align your big toe joint. Pain is often the result of rubbing of the enlarged bunion against the inner side of a shoe. Pain and deformity are significantly reduced in the great majority of patients who undergo bunion surgery. Pain in a patient’s foot can also be attributed to bunions, which are misaligned big toe joints that can become swollen and tender, causing the first joint of the big toe to slant outward, and the second joint to angle toward the other toes.

Toe stretchers are excellent to exercise the muscles in the foot and to gently stretch the tendons and ligaments and help realign the toes. Toe spacers are best to prevent bunions from becoming worse. Foot conditions and injuries can be difficult and painful. Foot Pain Foot pain is a term used to describe general foot discomfort. Foot pain causesĀ  must be fully known to find out about the most effective solution. Foot pain mainly caused by ill-fitting sandals or shoes, mostly the specialty footwear such as high-heels.

Re-alignment of the big toe is then done by releasing the tight structures on the lateral side of the first MTP joint – see this article title how to treat a bunion. Bunions are a progressive deformity in which your big toe begins to drift toward your other toes and a painful bump forms at the joint where your big toe joins to the ball of your foot. A bunion is therefore, the result of improper alignment of the big toe at the joint, which instead of extending straight, bends away from the midline towards the smaller toes, disturbing their angulations as well.

Surgery may be considered if you have bunions that are causing problems. Surgery to correct a bunion may be an option if other treatment does not relieve pain. Surgery may be considered for patients who do not respond to conservative measures. As we age, the natural fat pad in our feet slowly move and shrink, making bones more prominent. The nerve over-lying the bone may also become inflamed due to shoe irritation. Bunions involve a bone, which means treatment is necessary to prevent progressive damage. Bunions form when the normal balance of forces that are exerted on your joints and tendons of the foot are disrupted. This disruption can lead to instability and cause deformity brought on by years of abnormal motion and pressure.

Heel Cups For Heel Spurs

I am compelled to wear heel cups for my heel spurs, as part of my plantar fasciitis treatment. The pain is so bad if I don’t wear them, that I can barely walk. A heel cup is just one part of my own heel spur treatment, along with daily exercises I perform to stretch my calf muscles.

Heel cups are made from silicone, and fit snugly in any pair of shoes you might be wearing for the day. For me, comfort is secondary to pain relief, so I wear them every time I wear shoes. Around the house, I usually walk barefoot because I like to keep my feet exercised, using my toes as well as the ball of my foot and heel.

Previously to discovering that I was suffering with plantar fasciitis, I wore orthotics to help reshape and reposition the arch of my foot. About ten years ago I started suffering with intense lower back pains. After a visit to an osteopath, he discovered that the cause of my back pain was ‘flat feet’!

However, my back is now healed and I continue to wear heel cups for my heel spurs and plantar fasciitis pain. The relief I get from wearing these cups is making the way I live a lot easier than before I discovered the cause.
